The digital economy may sound unfamiliar to people in both public and private sectors. The digital economy, referring to an economy that is developed based on digital computing technologies, is not only the government’s strategic policy to drive growth for the national economy, but also provides Thai people with economic solutions that lead to a better quality of life and a healthier living. A broad range of technological systems will be used to secure the advancement of product manufacturing and service operations backed by innovative marketing and promotional strategies. With newly developed communication channels, the digital economy will immensely change people’s consumption behavior. The government is also required to upgrade its administration and supervision processes by relying more on social media and other technological systems. As a consequence, the government has to develop efficient policies and mechanisms to keep pace with the digital economy, expected to accelerate GDP growth in the long run.

 

For the business sector, entrepreneurs have been urged to generate greater development for their products and services with the application of digital systems. Consumers want to obtain their preferred products and services conveniently and comfortably. It is significant for the government to rely more on digital services to be applied for the development of administrative policies, rules, and regulations. In addition, the Licensing Facilitation Act, B.E. 2558 (2015) has encouraged government-related organizations to increase efficiency in offering a variety of quality services to the general public as the implementation timeframe can be specified and people can file their complaints to the government anytime. All government agencies are however required to determine the targeted goals of each public service based on the requirements of the Digital Government Development Plan, where government officials are compulsorily required to possess sufficient digital knowledge supported by the promptness of infrastructure services. This is considered the ultimate goal of globally-required digital competence leading to the complete overhauling of public services for Thai people countrywide. Government-based digital services are being developed to break down all information barriers and procedural restrictions, for instance, the transmission of information, accessibility of information, and time and cost of services. Despite the complications of the development and application, various government agencies are eager to seek the best solutions of information technology to tackle all issues in an integrated manner.       

 

At the moment, I would like to affirm that the Electronic Government Agency (Public Organization) (EGA) is not only responsible for the development and management of ICT infrastructures for various government agencies, but has also played a pivotal role in evolving the seamless connection of government-based information in compliance with the Digital Government Development Plan. Consequently, the government sector can promote the achievement of information integration, where government organizations will achieve all projects implemented based on the “Smart Operation” concept. With the substantial progress of digital technology, the EGA can guarantee that all Thai people will always be offered the best of quality public services.
